Today I’m giving a presentation to Northrop Grumman’s Diabetes Support Program about the various medications available to individuals that have Type 2 Diabetes.
Northrop Grumman provides free health screenings to their employees to try to catch early signs of heart disease, diabetes, and other health conditions to prevent complications. What an excellent benefit for employees!
On average, it takes 6 1/2 years to find and diagnose someone with Type 2 Diabetes. It’s important to know the signs of diabetes:
- Thirst
- Hunger
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Dry skin
- Dehydration
- Frequent Urination
- Blurry Vision
- Sometimes, no symptoms at all
These are all signs that your blood sugars may be running too high. By simply going to your doctor and having your fasting blood sugar or Hemoglobin A1c (3 month avg of blood sugar levels) checked at least once per year, you can catch diabetes early and prevent serious complications from occuring.

Why don’t employees with Type2 diabetes get a walk break at lunch?
(My team tends to work through lunch)
I am attempting to get to the root of the problem by purging my liver. I skip breakfast, eat ultra low carb, take a 1/2 hr walk.. sometimes I return 10 minutes late and get hastled by the sr. Group leader at NUWC (I work for Northrop Grumman) . Addicted smokers get 10 minute breaks multiple times per day. I am trying to beat this and get healthy… I am getting grief because I take a 45 minute lunch instead of 30 minutes. I am a salaried employee. Are there any Northrop Grumman HR policies in place for those of us trying to beat type 2?
I would like to focus on my work and get my type 2 in remission.
From quick fasting, 30 minute walks at lunch and work outs in the pm I dropped 39 lbs in a little over 1 month. My glucose was improving until my work groups Sr. Group Leader started to stress me out.

Hi Jerry, thanks for your comment and kudos to you for all the work you’ve put into improving your blood sugar and overall health. When I worked at Northrop Grumman (now over 7 years ago), I found it to be very supportive of healthy living. The dining options were fantastic, do they still have the Health Waves program? If you are looking for more resources, please check out the free meal plan and video trainings I have created, I think they may give you some additional ideas to control your diabetes for good. Thanks again!
