About
Hello there!
I’m so glad you’ve taken the time to be here, so let me provide a little background on me…
When asked the common question of ‘what do you do?’ my response is very simple… I help individuals thrive with diabetes, through delicious food!
As a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, I’ve had the privilege to spend the last 10 years of my career helping thousands of individuals lower their blood sugar and lose weight, while eating what they love and finding peace with food!
Having worked one-on-one with clients for so many years has given me a unique understanding of what individuals struggle with and what resources they need in order to be successful in their goals.I believe in simple, sustainable and results-driven strategies when it comes to nutrition. Ok, that may sound good, but what does that actually mean??
To better explain, it’s worth looking at how I got here to provide the full picture…
Growing up in Nashville, I didn’t always know how to cook or understand what’s in my food…but I always loved to eat! My family celebrated everything around the dinner table with delicious home cooked food.
My dad would make the BEST omelets, and on Sundays, my mom’s special chicken dish was always a family favorite! And my grandmother’s mac and cheese…that was a highlight that we all looked forward to at every holiday (I still get excited about it every time I go home)!
Before I ever knew what was healthy, I knew what was nourishing.Â
I knew how good food made me feel and I knew how much I enjoyed the people I sat and ate it with. And for this, I will always be thankful.
Fast forward to today, these are some of the key elements I help people incorporate into their lives to ensure they are truly enjoying their food. When we eat meals that we enjoy (and make us feel good), we’re much more willing to continue repeating that over and over again…and this is the key to long term, life-changing, healthy eating habits.
I’m a mom to a very busy toddler and wife to my husband Grant. We love living in Southern California where we drink lots of caffeine (again, I’m a mom to a veryyyy busy toddler, ha!) and we prefer to stay as close to the beach as possible.
Oh, and here’s some of the technical stuff, because that’s important too!
My education started with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. I went on to complete my dietetic internship at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC where I was clinically trained at Duke University Hospital. Additionally, I completed the CDR Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management in 2008.
I have previously worked as a Clinical Dietitian for ARAMARK at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, as the Corporate Wellness Dietitian for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, and as a Diabetes Educator at HealthCare Partners Medical Group in Southern California.
In 2011, I was honored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year from California. I launched Lori Zanini Nutrition in 2013, to focus on providing individuals with simple solutions, using science-based research.
I’m the proud author of Eat What You Love Diabetes Cookbook which features over 100 diabetes-friendly (comfort food!) recipes.
From 2014-2017, I served as a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Through this role, I worked with the media to serve as an expert source to provide accurate, science-backed information to print, online, and TV outlets.
And most recently, I created For The Love of Diabetes, a proven step-by-step way to manage diabetes without sacrificing your lifestyle.
